Overview
New drug substances and modalities have been a driving force behind innovation in formulation development. This success could not have happened without decades of biotechnology research and the discovery of excipients and technologies to enable effective drug delivery.
In this seminar we take you through two key examples in innovative formulation development:
- Lipids are one of the pillar excipients for drug delivery systems and are especially important for RNA-based therapies such as mRNA vaccines
- Long-acting injectables, particularly those based on microparticles, nanoparticles and implants, are among the most attractive parenteral products in the pharmaceutical industry
Key learnings for participants
- Importance of control of lipid impurities and technologies needed for lipid manufacturing
- Overview of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) polymer properties relevant to drug delivery formulations
- History and backstories around long acting injectables and polymeric drug products on the market
- Challenges in the GMP-production of implants, microparticles and nanoparticles
