This webinar will cover the application of EUDRAGIT® polymers as ready-to-use high-gloss cosmetic coatings for the development of various pharmaceutical products. The use of these polymers provides not only high gloss and durable coating options, but also offers taste masking and moisture protection properties. The webinar will also provide an overview of the benefits and challenges of using these polymers, as well as the methods for preparing and characterizing these coatings.     Juan Tomé-Alcalde is technical support manager in Evonik's Formulation & Application Services group in Darmstadt, Germany. He provides technical support for oral and parenteral polymers in the EMEA Region. Juan completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the School of Pharmacy, UCM, Madrid, Spain, where he obtained two master degrees in pharmacy and industrial pharmacy and galenics. Juan started his career as an intern at Evonik in 2007 in the drug delivery department. He has since worked as a pharmacist and head of the particle laboratory at Evonik where he co-invented several patents. Juan transferred to Evonik Japan and worked as a technical support manager with a focus on complex parenterals for a period of four years. Since his return, he has been providing technical support to customers from the EMEA region.

Enteric polymers and GI targeting

We will discuss the important factors in the selection and formulation of EUDRAGIT® polymers and their use in developing effective GI-targeted formulations. Selected case studies from in vivo evaluations will be presented. In addition, we will discuss the use of precoated capsules (EUDRACAP®) as a means of simplifying the formulation process and improving drug delivery. EUDRATEC® technologies will be briefly presented to complement the portfolio of enteric solutions for the pharmaceutical market.

Sustained release formulations

The use of either multiparticulate or matrix formulations containing EUDRAGIT® polymers allows for the controlled release of active pharmaceutical ingredients, resulting in improved drug efficacy and reduced dosing frequency. In addition, we will discuss the incorporation of Chematic® cleaners into manufacturing processes to simplify equipment cleaning, resulting in reduced downtime and increased productivity. Through case studies and examples, this presentation highlights the benefits of using EUDRAGIT® polymers to maximize the potential of oral solid dosage forms.
